• The HS is structured using a six-digit nomenclature.  Almost 200 countries, representing about 98 percent of world trade use the HS as a basis for trade negotiations collecting international trade statistics, quota controls, rules of origin and for statistical and economic research and analysis.  There are about 5,000 commodity groups.  Each is identified by a six digit code, arranged in a legal and logical structure and is supported by well defined rules to achieve uniform classification around the world.
